I learned on a giant standard, model long lost from my memory, in typing class in 1979. I loved it. It was solid as a rock; you could be flying along and not have to be gentle when you reached up and whacked the carriage return. Portable typewriters just can't handle that type of heavy duty usage. It's my dream to own one someday.

You are very gracious in your manner of leaving, in that the way you described it sounds as if leaving behind that heavy desktop typer is symbolic of a lot of other baggage having also been left behind.

The future is bright, keep looking ahead, not behind. And I hope we are graced with more blog entries soon.
