Dirk van Weelden's typewriter portraits-- forgot to mention this in the typecast. He's sent me some information about this process, and I hope to try one in 2010.

Yes, what a great year it was. And for me, I became more dedicated to typecasting, thanks in large measure to your website. Thank you, and have a great 2010.

Word Ver: "enclousi". I am feeling very enclousi in the typecast community.

My personal highlight of the year was the discovery of this blog--and from hence, the Typosphere. I am not alone!

The reviews and model-centric posts on this site have, I must admit, been a big factor in my purchase decisions. And there have been a few: here's my 2009 TAC (Typewriter Acquisition Count):

1 Hermes Rocket
1 Hermes Baby (expired in transit, alas)
1 Olympia SM3s
3 Olympia SM4s (acquired 2 & 3 as parts machine)
1 Skyriter (unusable; played eBay roulette and lost)
1 Olympia SM9
1 Olympia SF (just stopped working! auuugh!)

Seems like a lot for eight months, I suppose. But I'm trying to find the right compatibility, a true match; I get to date around, right?

Lessons of the year:

1.) I'm probably an Olympia man. My SM4 is a revelatory experience, although the SM9 (like Cheryl's) remains the go-to machine for real distances.

2.) I'm not a Pica guy. That size just eats up too many pages.

3.) I don't have the heart to cannibalize "parts" machines, if they're usable in themselves. I ended up fixing my second machines nicely, and will be finding good homes for them in 2010.

Also up this year: designation of my true Workhorse (probably an elite SM9, as yet unacquired), and giving another make or two a sporting chance. Maybe Olivetti?

Also: get my scanner up and running! I've yet to post a typecast of my own. Thanks for being such a good enabler, Cheryl.

I was happy to find this blog. You're a wonderful community organizer, Cheryl (intentional or otherwise).

My typewriter grounds me.

When one is working with (and helping to develop) futuristic holographic technologies, there's very little difference between a typewriter of yesteryear and an iPhone of today.

To me, they're BOTH equally antiquated technologies.

My related two-cents here is a sequence, involving the arrival of my Olympia Traveller De Luxe, from England by ship. Tom Furrier, of Cambridge Typewriter, brought it to sparkling life in time for me to take it with me to the Benedictine monastery for two weeks of writing in the mountains. But these are snapshots among a big picture album of my gratitude for writing.

Thank YOU for gathering us with your encouragement and Silent Type. I'm mighty thankful for the whole typosphere gang!
Bonne Annee 2010 !

Its been a great year for me, too. I discovered all this typecasting for the first time back in August. I had a great run of eBay, antique shops and Craigslist to start up my own little typewriter collection. I learned of NaNo and won my first year. I've been writing a lot more, as well...

All in all, a good year!

Thanks guys, the whole reason I started the blog was to talk with other typewriter folk, so I am glad to know you're out there!

Thank you Strikethru for all of the fabulous material.(Especially Silent Type!) I am sure LFP can speak the same we have been thoroughly enjoying using the SG1s. And I want to thank you again for the Lettera, it came with me to New England and back. I also will be sending you an email shortly, I just have been so busy Christmas and the New year. So again thank you to all the kind folk around the typosphere and Happy New Year.

2009 Fave: the remarkable proliferation of typecasting and retrotech sites, in near-infinite variety of color and content.

2009 Least Fave: my violent and public flameout in NaNo, subsequent pity-party, self-imposed solitary confinement, stint in rehab, etc.

Alternate 2009 Fave: My 8 year old son recognizing the segment and type-bars of a typewriter improbably inserted behind glass in the chest of a robot statue at Disney's Tomorrowland, and pointing out same to me, with no small amount of excitment.

Alternate 2009 Least Fave: The fact that someone apparently dismembered a perfectly good typewriter to build a stupid robot statue at Disney's Tomorrowland.

Haw haw, Duffy Moon. Well, if it makes you feel better, I think I got about three words into Nano before throwing in the towel.

James, you are certainly welcome. I knew you'd be a good home for the Lettera.
