Yes, I am going to go back to regular posts and quit talking about Silent Type just as soon as I get these to the post office this week. Here are some pictures of the assembly process over the weekend. I did my very bestest to make sure there were no mistakes on the Table of Contents or credits page, but if you find one, feel free to send me a flame mail.

And on the seventh day, God rested
Did I just compare myself to God? ;-)
My point is this:
SILENT TYPE IS DONE.
Yes, you read that right. Let's recap the entire history of this caper just for posterity. Way back in --oh my word, February-- I came up with the half baked idea to start a retrotech literary journal. With input from the typosphere, the theoretical journal was born (in software, they call this 'vaporware.') After many deadline extensions, a final date of June 30th arrived for your mailed-in typewritten essays, stories, and poems (and some photographs). Due to the talent and generosity of my friend Brandon, production-related shennannigans rounded out the summer.
And on today, Sept 20-something, 2009, the finish line has finally been crossed. (Well, they still need to be printed and stapled, that's this weekend.) On Monday, they're dropped in the mail.
If you contributed, you're automatically getting a copy (along with your returned original submission). If you did not contribute but want a copy, please send me your address at strikethru (at) tiny-dog.com. I will send out as many copies as we make (about 30), so be quick, or I may run out.
Thanks to everyone who stuck with this rather long-winded project this year.
Update: I'm all out of copies. If I've e-mailed you back, you've got one on the way next week. Otherwise, you can still send me e-mail since there may be a second printing soon. Printing went as planned today, and I've got the completed issues in a stack, waiting to hit the mail.

Shakespeare and Company bookstore, Paris, France
Shakespeare and Company, an English language bookstore in Paris, was one of the many sights I wanted to shoehorn in during my two days in the city last week. The bookstore is featured in the movie Before Sunset, which, along with its prequel, is essentially my favorite film.
Well, Shakespeare and Co. did not disappoint. It is, for lack of well-rested eloquence, a place you simply must see for yourself, if you haven't been there already. At the very least, rummage around on the web to learn more about its history and the writers, current and former, who have made the place their home.
Among its countless charms is a tiny carrel in which there is a typewriter and a chair, for the use of bookstore patrons. Sadly, the young woman you see below was camped out inside of it during my entire visit, typing painfully slowly and not affording me more than a peek at the typewriter inside (it was red, that much I know).
Thousands of notes, typed and otherwise, paper a wall in the children's section of the store. They are mostly love letters to Shakespeare and Co. written on the spot by random patrons, torn from their travel journals and affixed to the wall with a band-aid or other makeshift adhesive.
Oh, Silent Type, you ask? It's safe to say I did not work on it during my vacation. But I'm back, so I'll update about it soon, right after I finish reading all of your most recent typospheric musings.

Silent Type: section headers
Workin' on Silent Type. Here are the section pages. I am thinking maybe these pages will be printed in color. Not sure. We'll see how it goes.
