Q: "Hey Strikethru, whatever happened to that half-baked idea you had for a typecasting journal?"
A: Having been employed by a software development company for a decade, I tend to think of projects in terms of technical specs. There are a lot of ideas floating around out there about the typecasting journal, mostly marooned in the comments of this post (which incidentally explains the project if you have no idea what I'm talking about), and so I have moved them to a spec that will serve as the planning document for the journal.
If you are interested in this project:
- Read the spec.
- Send me an e-mail if you want editing permissions to the spec. I would like it to be a collaborative document.
- Sign up to contribute to the first issue here. Please use the categories listed in the spec document when you fill out the category. Deadline to sign up is April 30, 2009. This is not the deadline to submit, it is just the deadline to commit to a submission for planning purposes.
- Each issue will have a theme, and the theme is not yet determined. In other words, don't start writing yet. If you have already, let me know. This may give me an idea for a theme.
- I will use the submission sheet to gauge interest/feasibility in the journal-- if we have enough contributions, we'll go forward. Otherwise, we'll call this one a fine idea that had no wings, and move on to other harebrained schemes.

Oooo exciting!
An exciting initiative. I can't wait to see what happens if typecasts are gathered in a magazine.
Thanks, Cheryl! You can count on me.

I'd love to submit something, but I'm afraid of rejection ;-)
But seriously, if I can produce a few photographs that may make the cut, I would be happy to submit them.
Despite the fact that I have been lying low for the last couple weeks, I reiterate: I am excited!
Sounds like fun, count me in!
Exceedingly interesting. I sincerely hope something comes of this idea. I and my typewriters stand ready. Guess I should dust off the old Polaroid, too...
hey strikethru --
From what i understand, your idea here is basically to 'image' handwritten or typewritten submissions and gather them into a print journal? (If i'm in the ballpark, I do think thats a fantastic idea).
As you say elsewhere, people suck when it comes to deadlines, and I imagine your real challenge will be managing content and deadlines rather than any problem with generating interest ;)
Re: content, I'm wondering why you say 'no genre fiction' (I think I saw that somewhere). Arent you unecessarily limiting yourself in terms of content?
From what I read in 'the spec', it sounds like you mainly want typewriter art and typewriter/product reviews? That seems really limiting for the content.
Similarly, are you so certain that you'll get enough content that you want to limit each edition to a 'theme'? That seems really ambitious to me. Maybe a 'loose theme'?
