I live in a geographical area that includes a big old lake. On one side of the lake is a hip city. On the other side are some boring suburbs and horse farms. I live in the boring part, unfortunately. However, sometimes I'm brought to the cool side of town for some reason or another, as was the case tonight. Someone I know was giving a book reading, and so I was wandering around in the art department of the UW bookstore before it started.
Mistake. Having recently declared an end to all frivolous spending, I should have known better than to place myself in proximity with writing implements of any sort. Unfortunately for my poor impulse control, the UW Bookstore is an obscene treasure trove of woodcase pencils, erasers, fountain pens, and endless stacks of notebooks, index cards, and other paper items you pretty much can't find anywhere in the boring part of town.
Rats. my Flickr page will tell you all you need to know about what happened in there.
A Little Art Never Hurt Anyone

Wandering around the art dept. at the U Bookstore is so tempting. It's been a long while since I've been there. I think you demonstrated remarkable restraint!
Don't feel bad, I would have done the same thing. I have pens and notebooks to cover for the next three centuries. And I still keep buying new ones!
One of these days I'll have to gather up my stash and take a picture. Trust me, it could be worse. ;-) Just this week I ran across some "Made in Brazil" composition books at a good price (they have much better paper than the ones made elsewhere) and bought up four, with no clear intention for them in mind. It's a sickness, I'm telling you.
I just love the way those Ampad notebooks look--classic!
...which is exactly why I'm gonna start selling that stuff. Sure it's kind of like an alcoholic opening a bar, but I'm strangely comfortable with it.
Mais, pourquoi pas!? -as we say in Maine (why not!)
Nothing the matter with supporting a good stationer and bringing home the graphite!
Like a coffee, a pencil is an affordable treat.
Boston area folks get to imbibe at a plethora of tearooms and cafes- and- Bob Slate's
(http://www.bobslate.com/pictures/)
Bob has an astounding array of sharpeners.
lmao - that is too funny! I would be right there with you.
I love the Ampad Gold Fiber notepads—I use them to write shorter letters. They are truly classic. I won't say how many I have. Or bagasse notebooks and composition books from Staples. And I won't mention the boxes of pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and pens in the closet . . .
It is an illness.
I wonder if my General's order will arrive today?
Three centuries? More like three millenniums!
High quality of affordable office supplies are available at eCost... I prefer to shop at here!!
Had the same thing happen to me when I visited a local paper shop today. Big Rhodia pad and two Rhodia pencils left the store with me. Nevermind that I have enough other pencils to last a lifetime. But it's a nice store.
Oy. I just spent waaay too much on a verrry nice notebook/journal. I think your flaunting of quality writing supplies is becoming a bad influence on me.
Word ver: semewarq: the coded signals Worf has to use to dock the Enterprise at Deep Space Nine because Quark doesn't speak Klingon.
What did you get? Inquiring minds and all that....
I've realized recently that I have far too many pocket-sized notebooks. Really, a ridiculous amount. They might have to send someone from the county to do a dig out.
LFP: it was this one:

Since my tw stuff is beginning to collide with all the other random scribblings in my Moleskine, I thought this would be a nice way to consolidate all my tw info. It's large enough to hold enough material for, oh, a whole book.
Ooh, I like it!
Soo...Strikethru...I shouldn't mention that when I was at Target yesterday, they had pocket notebooks with an old typewriter on the cover? (Can't remember which make or model...a Corona maybe?)
They were cute, but I managed to put it back. I not only have too many pocket notebooks, I have (quite literally) stacks of composition notebooks at the moment.
I sell notebooks and I still can't resist a stationery store. I end up using the excuse that it is research...
